Sports Awards 2010

Back to News Index

THE talent and achievement that have helped build a Thorne school's reputation for sport were recognised at its first ever awards presentation.

Teams and individuals from Trinity Academy received awards in recognition of their commitment and success at the end of year sports review.

A year of success in a range of sports was celebrated with rugby, hockey, netball, cricket, athletics and football represented, as well as equestrian, trampolining, orienteering and disability sports.

Around 250 students, along with parents and staff, packed into the Academy lecture theatre for the prize-giving.

The guest speaker for the event was 6ft 5ins rugby player Peter Browne, formerly of Newcastle Falcons and now Harlequins.

Principal Ian Brew said: "Our inaugural sports awards night celebrates the success of our teams and individual sportsmen and women. Every one of our award winners has shown commitment and determination, excellent teamwork and great sportsmanship.

"In representing the Academy at many fixtures away from school, they are true ambassadors for Trinity and have helped us build a formidable reputation for sport."

The major trophies won during the last year were on display including the Doncaster Schools Cups won by both the Year 9 and Year 10 football teams.
